National Senior Citizens Day is Wednesday, August 21. It’s a day to recognize and appreciate the contributions of older people to society, their communities and their families. Fountaindale’s Outreach Department offers an array of activities to raise awareness of supporting senior citizens in our community.

Seven Ways to Celebrate National Senior Citizen Day with Fountaindale’s Outreach Department

If you are a senior citizen yourself, here are seven ways you can benefit from our Outreach Services:

1. Experience our Tomato-Mania Program on the Bookmobile

There is still time to join us on the Bookmobile to experience our Tomato-Mania program! Whether you love to grow tomatoes, cook or eat them fresh, we will be featuring tomatoes on the Bookmobile during August. Be sure to participate for a chance to win a tomato-themed prize!

2. Participate in a Craft Session at Greenleaf Apartments

Join us for a fun afternoon of crafting in the Greenleaf Apartments Community Room. Visit with friends and neighbors as you work on your craft project, or try out a fun craft. Snacks and craft supplies will be provided, while supplies last. No registration is required to participate in this program!

Greenleaf Crafternoon
Mondays, September 16, October 14 & November 11, 1–2:30 p.m.
Greenleaf Apartments, 502 Kildeer Drive

3. Check out Popular Materials on the Bookmobile

We have all the popular materials and bestsellers on our Bookmobile shelves! Regular and large print books, audiobooks, movies, Wi-Fi hotspots and Rokus—AND IT’S ALL FREE! Our Bookmobile is a full-service mobile branch of our library that provides scheduled stops around the community at convenient locations around town, such as Target, IKEA, Best Buy, Beggars Pizza and First Presbyterian Church. For a schedule of our Bookmobile stops, visit our event calendar.

4. Check out a Memory Care Kit on the Bookmobile

Did you know that over 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia diseases? To help our patrons and those families in our community dealing with these diseases, we offer Memory Care Kits on the Bookmobile. Each kit has a different theme. Some of our themes include farming, oceans, retro Hollywood, cooking, pets and more!

5. Learn About our eResources on the Bookmobile

Our library offers a multitude of eResources such as Libby, hoopla, Kanopy, Ancestry, Consumer Health Report and more! Our friendly Bookmobile staff can show you how to download eBooks and eAudiobooks, access health and wellness articles and search for your family history.

6. Take Advantage of Home Delivery Service

A wealth of library materials is as close as your front door or mailbox! Our convenient Home Delivery Service provides library materials to patrons who are unable to visit the library or Bookmobile and are confined to their residences, either permanently or temporarily.

7. Enjoy an Online Activity Kit

Our Outreach Department has compiled an array of Online Activity Kits with our senior patrons in mind. These fun and interactive kits include links to eBooks, movies, music, crafts and virtual tours to keep you entertained at home. Themes include Tales and Travel, Hooray for History, Mystery Madness, Incredible Inventions and more. If you want a new virtual activity made, please email us at outreach@fountaindale.org.
