We are featuring a new illustrator in an Inspirations kit, Isabel Quintero. Stop by the Children’s Services Desk and pick up a bag while supplies last. Each bag contains a pencil and an eraser shaped like a vehicle. You will also find:
- A list of children’s books she wrote, available in the library or on hoopla (She also writes for young adults!)
- Coloring and activity sheets
- A map-making activity for younger kids
- Writing activities for older kids (using printables from Scholastic Teachables)
Want to explore more?
- Read what Isabel Quintero and illustrator Zeke Peña have to say about My Papi Has a Motorcycle at NPR, The Horn Book or Publishers Weekly.
- Browse for more books that won the Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award (Quintero won twice, in 2020 and 2015).
- Explore sweet, cold treats through books! Paletas (in the adult collection) also has instructions to make paletas, raspados and aguas frescas (and hoopla has recipes, too)
- Explore your neighborhood as a family! I haven’t tried raspados yet (reading Quintero’s books makes me want to), but I know where to buy yummy paletas right here in Bolingbrook. Maybe you can discover a new favorite!
