Fountaindale Public Library District offers programs that inform, educate, entertain and provide cultural enrichment to the residents of the district. Events and classes sponsored by the library support the mission of Fountaindale Public Library District and expand the visibility of the library in the community.
The selection of library programs are chosen by staff for their relevance to community needs or interest, popular appeal and sustainability for a general audience. Presenters are chosen for their proven or unique expertise and public performance experience. Presenters will not be excluded from consideration because of their origin, background or views or because of possible controversy; however, acceptance of a program or topic by the library does not constitute an endorsement of the group’s or individual’s policies or beliefs. Programs sponsored by Fountaindale Public Library District are generally offered free of charge and are open to all district residents. Some programs may require the purchase of materials by participants.
A current Fountaindale Public Library District card or access card in good standing is required to participate in or attend a registered program, unless otherwise specified. Registered programs are identified in all publicity releases for these programs. Non-library cardholders will be considered for attendance only when there is enough space available after cardholders have been given the opportunity to register. Drop-in programs do not require a library card and attendees will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Drop-in programs are identified in all publicity releases for the programs and do not require registration.
Library-sponsored presentations should be free of solicitations, sales pitches or proselytizing unless prior authorization from the library is given. Booking a library meeting room does not constitute a library-sponsored program.
Programs may be cancelled for a number of reasons such as severe weather, absence of the presenter or low registration. In the event a program is cancelled, efforts will be made to let the public know and registered participants will be notified. Cancelled programs are not automatically re-scheduled.
Cancellation for registered programs requires at least 24 hour notice. Cancellations can be done online through our event calendar or by calling, texting or emailing the library. Failure to provide 24 hour notice of a cancellation and/or repeated failure to show up for programs may be grounds for being waitlisted. Continued absences will result in suspension of registered program attendance privileges for up to 90 days. Attendees are expected to be on time for all programs. Those who arrive after the pre-set allowed time will be considered no-shows and their spot given away to people on the waiting list.
Individuals attending library sponsored programs are subject to all library policies, rules and regulations. The library reserves the right to suspend or revoke permission to attend library sponsored programs for any violations of library policies, rules or regulations. An individual wishing to file an appeal for any suspension of privileges shall submit it to the Executive Director in writing within 10 days of receiving the suspension. The Executive Director will respond in writing.
The Board of Trustees of Fountaindale Library District will review the Programming Policy and regulations periodically, and reserve the right to amend them at any time. The Board authorizes the Executive Director to waive these regulations under appropriate circumstances. The Executive Director is the chief person empowered to make decisions regarding programming. The Executive Director may delegate authority to approve programs to the appropriate staff.
Any appeals for changes to, or exceptions to, any portion of the Programming Policy will be considered. An individual wishing to file an appeal shall submit it to the Executive Director in writing. The Executive Director will respond in writing.
