It’s that time of the year when it turns a bit colder, the days get shorter and the nights longer and everything is a little spookier! Horror movies have always provided the visuals for this time of year, but it is the music that provides the soundtrack! Here is a list of five of my favorite (and what I consider to be the essential) classical music albums for Halloween.

The Best Classical Music for Halloween

Chiller

This is the one that started it all for me! My mom got this for me from the local library as a kid because she knew I loved two things more than anything else: monsters and music! I mean separately, they were awesome, but together, it was out of this world!!! I have been hooked ever since! Thanks, Mom!!!

Classics From the Crypt

Another awesome collection with GREAT cover art and the symphonic version of the Toccata and Fugue, for organ in D minor, BWV 565. This is my personal favorite version of my favorite Halloween classical piece, which is usually known for the original organ version. While we don’t have it at our library, it is available through Interlibrary Loan.

Fright Night: Music that Goes Bump in the Night

The best all around classical music Halloween album out there—don’t let the lackluster cover fool you! I go back to this album the most often. And this one contains the original organ version of the Toccata and Fugue, for organ in D minor, BWV 565.

Witches’ Brew

An album that has a great atmospheric cover and some lesser known classical Halloween music. Sadly, we don’t have this one in our collection, nor could I find it via Interlibrary Loan, but it is available on good old Amazon.

Devil’s Dance

What’s great about this album is that it is just violin with piano accompaniment. It presents Halloween classical pieces in their most raw and basic form, and it works amazingly well! It’s another album I go back to time and time again. I found this one via Interlibrary Loan as well.
