Text "We Like Reading!" with cartoon illustrations of a gray elephant and a pink pig, both smiling and playfully posing on a green and orange background.

We want to celebrate beginning readers as they learn new skills! Sign up at the Children’s Services Desk to be part of We Like Reading, a new reading program for young readers in grades K–2. Similar to our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, your children can complete this at their own pace.

We picked out some great books for our readers and paired them with activities, a small treat for Mo Willems fans, a reading log (which doubles as a mini-poster) and a guide with more books to try. You can find these near our early readers section in brown bags (shown here).

Library shelf labeled "Step Into Reading" with books covered in brown paper bags, a display sign, and some visible children's books on the side.

When your young reader finishes a log, bring it back to the Children’s Services Desk to get your next log and choose a sticker featuring a favorite book character. Once you bring back five completed reading logs, you will earn a special certificate!

Illustrated animals and flying books surround the words "Love to READ!" written in colorful, bold letters on a blue background.   A certificate with cartoon animals and the text "is an awesome reader!" is displayed next to a sheet of colorful animal stickers on a tan surface.
