Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is seeking a knowledgeable and friendly individual to ensure the library’s Children’s collections meets the needs of the community. This position is responsible for the selection, merchandising and deselection of children’s materials, assists with the creation of material displays and a variety of other Collection Development tasks. The ideal candidate loves books, entertainment and technology, exhibits fiscal responsibility and demonstrates intimate knowledge of Children’s collections.
Full-time position: Full-time/Non-exempt position (37.5 hours per week).
Salary: $23.00 per hour

Duties: Responsible for selecting Children’s materials in print, non-print, and digital formats, including e-materials and standing orders. Selects and reviews materials to be withdrawn from the Children’s collections. Acts as a liaison to public services departments, receiving input and title suggestions. Communicates changes in the collection and provides updates to other department staff members. Coordinates with other department staff members to ensure the timely and most cost effective method of acquisition and processing of new materials. Works with departmental staff and staff from other departments to market collections in the building. Manages donations of materials and funding for appropriate collections. Analyzes collection statistics and budget figures. Makes recommendations for collection size, development of new collections, and shelving allocations to the Collection Management & Technical Services Manager as needed. Prepares monthly reports of activity and provides statistical reports on collection activity as needed. Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education: Requires expertise acquired through completion of a MLS program from an ALA-accredited library school.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of collection development and selection or related experience required. Experience or familiarity with Children’s collections is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical library environment. Full-time position. May require some weekend and evening work.
